The Details of Everyday

Who wants to....
Once Lauren could participate in conversations, the earliest contests between Rachel and Lauren were "Me First, Me First". After many fights and tears, Mommy and Daddy said "whoever says me first, cannot be first." So then it was "Me too, Me too." Much better. But then they realized it was sometimes better to have the other one first - who gets out of the bath first, who gets dropped of at school first, who goes to the doctor first - so "Rachel first or Lauren first" started. So then Mommy and Daddy said "no volunteering your sister".

Naming
First Rachel and Lauren gave all their stuffed animals and dolls exciting names like Doll, Baby, Dog. If there was more than one they became Brown Bunny, Pink Bunny. Lauren is still at this stage. Then Rachel for awhile would make up nonsense names Bagoo, Kloppee. Next she started naming her stuffed animals after her friends at school -- especially the few that moved away. But now she has found the Princesses. Rachel loves all Princesses but most especially Princess Belle. And now the name for all her animals and dolls is.. Baby Belle.

Cuddly
Rachel has one special pink blanket that she grew very attached to by age 1. I tried to buy extra ones- even tracking down the company online. But apparently after a year, they changed the material or weave or something and Rachel was not tricked. We started talking about how cuddly her blanket was and she adopted that as the name of her blanket. Cuddly is still special. He is very carefully folded up into a small neat pile every day. I am not allowed to help unless Rachel gets very frustrated and then I am instructed and corrected on each step of the folding process. During the day he stays on a bookshelf and at night the little pile sits on her pillow.

Having learned the hard way, we gave Lauren lots of blankets. Lauren now calls all her blankets her Cuddlies. She still has favorites among them and will say "not that cuddly" if you offer her the wrong one. She is starting to want to fold them just like big sis but that is very hard for a 2-year old. So Rachel has begun teaching her this important skill of proper cuddly folding.

Red Hat Girls

They had a fancy picture day at school (ie daycare) where a picture company brings in costumes for the kids and takes lots of shots. Then they print up all the good photos and tempt you to spend a small fortune to buy one or half a paycheck for the whole enchilada. Opting for just the small fortune I picked these two photos. Rachel loved playing dress up and having her pictures taken. Lauren was more unsure of the whole setup.
