So glad it was after hours

Lauren got sick this weekend. She woke up with a 104.4F fever on Saturday afternoon. I took her to the after hours clinic at 3:40. The clinic is only open until 4 but the on-call doctor was running behind about 20 min. Lauren was just snuggling on my shoulder in the waiting room. First she was complaining that her throat hurt. Then she said it was her stomach. The doctor came into the exam room asked a couple questions and then Lauren just vomited all over me. The doctor looked at my fully drenched clothes, said "I will let you get her settled down and come back", and fled the room. I had brought a change of clothes for Lauren, who was only wearing a t-shirt when we arrived because of the fever, but never dreamed I would need clothes for myself. I started to try and clean my shorts and shirt but it really was a lost cause. I asked the nurse who came in to help clean the room for a gown. So I finished cleaning Lauren, changed into the gown and the doctor came back and finished the exam. Lauren did not have strep and felt much better after vomiting on me. When I left the exam room, the waiting area and parking lot was deserted which was so wonderful. I was afraid I looked like a mental patient fleeing with someone else's kid. But no one saw, I obeyed every traffic rule on the way home, and gleefully changed into clean clothes at home. Lauren is better but still fighting the virus. At home we often talk about how to behave trading examples as in the conversation, Lauren says "We don't push our friends" I say "We don't take off our shoes at school or we don't eat rocks." Today Lauren sweetly added "We don't throw up on our mommys".

good grief crystal! i had no idea... so sorry that she was/is so sick and that you were her victim! only motherhood brings scenarios like this into our lives..."um, do i wear throw up clothes or a patients gown?" and how sweet that she felt bad for it!! give her a hug for me!

Now Rachel and I have it minus the vomiting at least. I hope our germs can't cross the street.
