An ounce of prevention

Lauren and I were caught in the heaviest down pour today, even some hail.

As usual, we walked Rachel to school with Lauren riding her bike. The sky was blue overhead but dark clouds were in the distance. On the way there, Rachel was helping push Lauren when the training wheels got stuck or Lauren's momentum was not quite enough. As soon as Rachel was in class, the first few drops started to fall. So Lauren and I headed home. I started pushing Lauren, faster and faster but the rain kept coming down harder. She had her helmet on and fleece jacket but was getting wet. I had a overcoat on and no umbrella. About half way home, the rain really let loose. I took my overcoat off and covered my and Lauren's head and kept leaning over Lauren's bike, running and pushing. The jacket kept covering my face so I had to just look at the center line of the sidewalk. I was getting tired and wet. Lauren however was having the time of her life. "This is so fun mommy" and "my hands are getting wet." And then when the hail started, "Look there are seeds". We finally made it home, wet and me out of breath.

I will be bringing an umbrella to school until June.
